HH Holmes is believed to be America's first documented serial killer. It was speculated he murdered 200 people. He was a medical doctor born Herman Webster Mudgett he later changed is name to HH Holmes - Dr. Henry Howard Holmes. He build a large home at 601-603 West 63rd Street in Chicago, ILL. he sometimes called the Castle or Midget Hill.  He began his murder spree from 1888 to 1894. He once wrote:

I could not help the fact that I was a murderer, no more than the poet can help the inspiration to sing — I was born with the 'Evil One' standing as my sponsor beside the bed where I was ushered into the world, and he has been with me since." <cite>– H. H. Holmes</cite>  
He died on May 7, 1897 by hanging.
